Related Experience

During the past decade members of the firm have been directly involved in a diverse range of building typologies. Theses range from design remedies and rehabilitation of existing (and occupied) buildings to the masterplanning and construction of new structures accommodating a broad cross section of user groups. These include public and private sector support group housing and their related facilities, (John Gibson Men's Residence), rental housing (Finch Main Gardens), condominiums (Wellington Gates), hotels (Crowne Plaza Hotel), various retail (Yonge Davis Centre), office (Datacom Marketing) and industrial (Nourse Automotive Distribution Centre) applications. These projects have been located in a variety of urban and suburban locations within and around Toronto. Projects have been executed using a variety contract formats (i.e. lump sum general tender, project management and design build) and in many cases the firm provided full contract administration.

Many of these projects involved interfacing with existing structure, appeasing and negotiating with local neighborhood groups and Authorities Having Jurisdiction during zoning amendments, planning and historical board approvals. The above required many presentations and production of models, perspectives and other graphic material which ultimately was part of the design process.

We are well versed in various housing standards (which are above and beyond the minimum standards of the Ontario Building Code) having completed many Ministry of Housing projects.

Extensive experience has been gained with the ONHWP by providing extensive investigative reporting and analysis of complete building envelope performance, design and related building code issues pertaining to both part 3 and part 9 of the OBC. This analysis once synthesized formulates the basis for the generation of design remedies and rehabilitative strategies (695 Richmond Street Condominium & The Harbour Club Condominiums).

Members of the firm stay current relative to building science issues by attending numerous seminars (OAA, OBEC, ONHWP & CMHC), technical trade shows (Construct Canada & IDEX), and becoming active members of related associations (OBEC & SWA).
