Woodbridge Gates
Woodbridge Avenue & Kipling Avenue
This project is an exciting mixed residential/commercial development that seeks to redefine the western gateway to the old Woodbridge Core. In a city where the opportunities provided by corners have too often been under-utilized, the designers of
Woodbridge Gates were able to animate the corner, anchoring it with the tallest building and stepping back with a series of smaller volumes that is still pedestrian-friendly.
The building's architecture is reminiscent of a 1920s-era apartment building. While it takes the correct approach to urban scale and massing, its architectural expression is a bit clumsy and heavy-handed. A well detailed, more contemporary expression
of architecture and building typology would not be out of place.
The design team should be commended for the sophistication of the site plan and massing.
