Firewall Software

If you're computer is connected to the Internet (either through a dial-up connection or a DSL modem), experts strongly recommended that you install "personal firewall" software on your computer. Without it, Internet hackers may be able to break into your computer and steal your data or do even worse.

Firewall software works by monitoring all the information going in and out of your computer. If the firewall notices unusual activity, it will either block it or notify you so you can take action.

I've used both ZoneAlarm and McAfee Personal Firewall. Both products work very well. Norton also has firewall software (I haven't used it yet). I recommend that you install personal firewall software on all the computers connected to your internet even if you have a DSL router with a built-in firewall.
